This course is not open to students who are enrolled in, or have completed, any course in Computer and Information Science, other than CIS 5.2, numbered 1. 0 or higher with a grade of C or higher, or who have completed Core Studies 5 or 5.1.
- A Balanced Introduction to Computer Science, David
Reed.
- CC3.12 Course Pak consisting of selections from various
sources. It is available at the bookstore Shakespeare & Co., 14
Hillel Place, (718)434-5326 (right near the Flatbush Ave. entrance
to the College).
Additional resources:
- Companion Website - This free website provides
practice tests and other online resources. Visit
http://www.prenhall.com/reed.
- "e-tips for A grades" Website - This website
was written and edited by top students and recent grads from
colleges and universities across the U.S. There's no condescending
advice here - just stuff to help you succeed in tackling you
academic, social, and professional challenges! Visit
www.etipsforagrades.com .
See the official CC3.12 website.
- Homework - Assignments will generally be based
on the labs. They will be due at the beginning of
the next lab. You will lose ten percent for each week late. Although
the official course website says that assignments may be emailed,
in this class they must be printed and submitted (unless you are specifically told otherwise). Homework must be individual work.
Homework will be graded generously. It is 33% of your grade! Do it! You may get help with the homework, but
you may not submit work done by someone else.
- Class participation - May affect your grade.
Questions about what is being discussed are welcome. Disturbances
are not. You are expected to keep your monitor turned off when it
is not being used for classwork.
- Exams - No makeup exams. Obviously exams must
be individual work.
Academic Integrity
http://www1.cuny.edu/portal_ur/content/2004/policies/policies.html
The CUNY Policy and the Report of the Committee on Academic
Integrity
The faculty and administration of Brooklyn College support an environment free from cheating and plagiarism. Each student is responsible for being aware of what constitutes cheating and plagiarism and for avoiding both. The complete text of the CUNY Academic Integrity Policy and the Brooklyn College procedure for implementing that policy can be found at this site: http://www.brooklyn.cuny.edu/bc/policies. If a faculty member suspects a violation of academic integrity and, upon investigation, confirms that violation, or if the student admits the violation, the faculty member MUST report the violation.
Storage
Bring to class something on which you can store your
work. Alternatively, be prepared to email it to yourself and be able to display it in class.
