Taring a directory:
- Create a tar gzipped backup of /home and store this in the file /home.tgz (make sure this file is not readable by others).
Rsync:
- rsync information
- Additional details, such as adding the firewall access (ufw)
- On one computer, allow access to /home for reading only from the computers in the lab for the root user and use the password of cislab (for rsync, not the ssh password)
- Create a keyfile with the password and use this for backup purposes.
- Use rsync to backup another user's /home directory and store it in a directory called /backup on your computer (create this backup directory)
- Have an exclude file to not backup the browser's cache files. Open up Firefox to see where your cache files are stored.
- Using cron, setup a contab to backup the home directory automatically every hour.
- Show me your crontab and backup script. Run the script for me.
