The C Programming Language. by Brian W. Kernighan and Dennis M. Ritchie
Practical C Programming.
C++: The Core Language is a very good book for C programmers to learn C++ in a week.
Prof. Arnow has just finished writing a very good JAVA book :
Introduction to Programming Using Java : An Object-Oriented Approach
The UNIX Programming Environment. by Brian W. Kernighan and Rob Pike
