The Kohain Gadol's Bull

The Kohain Gadol walked to the bull which stood between the Ulam and the Mizbayach. The bull, which was his personal property, was a Korban Chattas. It would later be burned outside the Bais Hamikdash. He placed both hands on his head and leaned on it while confessing his sins and the sins of his household (wife). The purpose of this Korban was to atone for the intentional or unintentional sin of entering the Bais Hamikdash or eating Kodashim when tamay, called Tumas Mikdash Vekadashav.

After the lottery of the goats, the Kohain Gadol returned to his bull. He leaned on it and made a confession on behalf of the Kohanim. The purpose of this confession was to atone for any Kohain that entered the Mikdash or ate Kodashim when tamay.

He slaughtered the bull and quickly received the blood in a bowl. He performed both the Shechitah and the Kabalah with his right hand. To accomplish this he let the knife drop from his hand right after the Shechitah in order to make the Kabalah immediately. He then handed the bowl of blood to another Kohain to stir so that it would not congeal before the time to sprinkle it.

The procedures of bringing the Ketores of Yom Kippur and sprinkling the blood were next. Then the goat was sent to Azazel. After that the bull and the other goat were burned outside Yerushalayim.
