Shechitah, Kabalah, Holachah, and Zerikah
of the Korban Tamid

A lamb was brought from the north side of the Mizbayach. One Kohain performed the Shechitah. Another Kohain received the blood in a vessel called a Mizrak. This Avodah was called the Kabalah. The Mizrak was positioned to catch all the blood of the Shechitah. After the Kabalah, a Kohain would carry the blood to the Mizbayach. This was a separate Avodah called Holachah. The Kohain would dash blood from the Mizrak onto the walls of the Mizbayach at the northeast and the southwest corners. The dashing of the blood was called Zerikah.
