The CIS department offers three different MAJORS:

  1. Computer Science (CS), which is a traditional computer science degree that teaches proficiency in two (or more) programming languages, the basics of computer architecture and theory of computation, experience with software design and implementation, and electives in advanced topics in computing. A CS degree helps prepare students for jobs in computer programming, software engineering and design, network programming and system administration, teaching and research. The CS degree also helps prepare students for graduate study in computer science and related fields.
  2. Multimedia Computing (MMC), which is an interdisciplinary degree that combines aspects of computer science with a range of multimedia environments, such as interactive web-based settings, computer games and robotics, as well as art, music and film. An MMC degree helps prepare students for jobs in web-based programming and design, animation and robotics.
  3. Information Systems (IS), which is a joint degree offered together with the Economics (Business) department. An IS degree helps prepare students for jobs in management information systems (MIS), such as helping administer the computers in a banking environment.

The CIS department offers four different MINORS: (1) Computer and Information Science, (2) Multimedia Computing, (3) Parallel and Distributed Computing, and (4) Cognitive Science.

The CIS department also offers one CERTIFICATE in Computers and Programming.
