11/10/09 Homework assignment #5 has been posted, and it is due on Wednesday, November 18.
11/03/09 I have added some details to homework assignment #4. You have the option of resubmitting the assignment to receive a better grade. This is because most students did not test whether the transaction array was working by printing the values in the arrays.
10/06/09 EXAM 1: Exam 1 is scheduled for Wednesday, October 21, and will take place in room 236NE. Topics include: UNIX, Pointers, Strings (C-Strings and C++ Strings), 2d arrays, 1d arrays of pointers. See the syllabus for the required reading.
09/30/09 The strcat example from class has been posted -- follow the above link for class notes.
09/24/09 The Codelab assignment on Pointers was given in class on Wednesday, Sept 23. It is due on Wednesday, September 30.
09/21/09 The due date for homework assignment #2 has been extended to Wednesday, September 23.
09/21/09 An email went out the class email list about CodeLab registration. All students must register (it is free, of course) and you will find the early exercises a good review of the material you learned in CIS 1.5. This Wednesday we will be doing some of the CodeLab exercises on Pointers in class. IF you did not receive the email then let me know asap.
09/01/09 There will be a quiz on the prerequisite material (chapters 1-7 in the Gaddis textbook) on Wednesday, Sept 9. It will be on the material taught in CIS 1.5 including arrays, functions (pass by reference/value), loops, data types, simple classes, etc.
08/04/09 Welcome to CIS 15! Our first day of class is Monday, August 31, 2009. This course is programming intensive, so expect to devote several hours a week to assignments. The first week we will be learning the fundamentals of the UNIX operating system. You can ge a head-start by following the links above and beginning to learn UNIX on your own. Good luck, and I hope this will prove to be a very fruitful semester.

Our textbook will be: Starting Out with C++: From Control Structures through Objects, 6th Ed. by Tony Gaddis. Its list price is about $105, but there are many places online that appear to be selling it for much less. You are more than welcome to find a good price for the book. You may buy either the 5th or the 6th edition. In addition, I assigned a textbook on UNIX, Just Enough UNIX, by P.K. Anderson. You may buy either the 4th or 5th edition.
