The Buildup of a Computer

The construction of a computer consists of several layers of building blocks:

Atoms → Molecules → Transistors → Logic Gates → Circuits → Chips → Systems → Computer

On top of hardware lies the software, starting from the operating system, up to various computer utilities, up to user applications.

Note how closely these layers resemble the biological layers of a human:

Atoms → Molecules → Organelles → Cells → Tissues → Organs → Organ Systems → Human

On top of the body lay the personality, thoughts, emotions, and other qualities that make us who we are.
