Physical Security

Before we reach the discussion on Access Control at the end of these lecture notes, we first need to cover the prerequisite topic of physical security, which is frequently touched by the topic of Access Control.

Physical security refers to the measures taken to protect the physical environment and infrastructure that stores the information system resources, including hardware, software, and other networking devices against physical threats such as theft, fire, water, floods, and so on.

Although this necessity might sound quite mundane and obvious, one should focus on maintaining physical security with the same seriousness as protecting their software, network, etc.

Even if you opt to store all your data and information on the cloud, thereby freeing yourself from maintaining the physical security of your data, remember that your data is now stored on a company's physical database servers.
How well does this company maintain the physical security of your data from theft, disasters, and spying?
