Side Channel Attacks

  1. An exploit called a keyboard logger is a small spy malware whose purpose is to record what keys are pressed and send this log to the hacker. Another spyware may repeatedly capture screenshots and send them to the hacker. Imagine the consequences!
    Control:
    1. Keep the computer's anti-virus software working and up-to-date.
  2. Another issue with keyboards is that pressing keys emits sound, and, in most keyboards, each key has a unique sound. The difference between the sounds can be noticed by a software of good sensitivity, allowing listening to the keyboard up to 50 feet (!) away.
    1. Purchase a keyboard whose keys produce the same (or at least undistinguishably close) sounds.
    2. Generate random sounds in the vacinity of the keyboard to fool spies.
