CIS 3.1 MX8 Fall 2005

You may not be aware, but Dreamweaver can do FTP for you.  However Dreamweaver stores the settings locally on the PC. So for the Atrium it's shared so it's hard to do it. However you can use WS_FTP which is in the lab in the Internet Folder. You can get that program for free to upload your files to your site.
ftp://ftp.ipswitch.com/pub/win32/ws_ftple.exe
Make sure you say it's for educational use.

You can find many Internet programs here:
http://cws.internet.com/

Macromedia has Trial Versions for Flash & Dreamweaver. However they expire after 30 days.

You can use an alternative web authoring program. Such as Front Page. Windows 98 has (if you installed the option) as simple web editor Front Page Express. It's in Programs/Accessories/Internet Tools. As well, for Photoshop, you can use an alternative editor. Flash there no alternatives, however (at least for what I want done for the course work).

Web Site Project (25%)

Design over the course of the term a web site of your choice. It should contain various multimedia elements. You must include images, sounds, and Flash. You may use video clips if you wish as well, but that is not required. Javascript would be nice too, as it helps your grade a bit. Your grade will be based on web page style, ease of use, functionality, and quality of the content. Since it is a term project, it should look that you spend quite a while on it. I would expect that it would take at least 20 hours of work over the term to create the content and design the pages. Do the project so it looks like it's professionally done (make me proud).

Also please write up information about the site:

Lab Work (20%)

Every week or so there is a lab, which counts like homework. Try and get these done within a week or so of the lab to keep up with the class. Most labs are simple and will take less than an hour. If you have a problem, please contact me or see me in my office. Ask a question in class, because others likely don't understand as well.

You will be building an online portfolio of your work for class. You'll be creating a web site which will house your labs. This will also serve as a check list for me to see what assignments you've completed. When you have completed a lab assignment send me an email so I know to check your site for the new assignment.
